The Landy Mann

Most of us probably don’t but that is not the point floods? well here is how a mk1 megane deals with water! However a landy driver would turn round and go though again!

The term gas guzzler is wrong for several reasons-

  1. Gas is American for petrol
  2. Gas when referring to cars is meaning LPG which is in fact better than petrol
  3. If we use it to mean petrol why are diesel land rovers ‘gas guzzlers?
  4. Land Rovers don’t guzzle they just sip it rather allot!

The Landy Mann

These are routes that have been open to vehicular access for century’s but know they are being shut down as ‘gas guzzling’ 4×4’s damage them. It is coman knowledge that Tractors walkers and everyone else is to blame as well. But as these get closed and replaced by restricted byways more people will break the law (one Saturday on the Ridgeway last month 4 bikes, a mini motto and Suzuki Vitara. These are not landy drivers don’t blame us.

Any way some clarification of gas guzzlers will be uploaded tomorrow until then it’s good bye from the Landy Mann

Polluting cars will have to pay more tax! That thought has been around for a while but now ‘gas guzzers’ will get a £950 show room tax on top of all the other taxes all ready there. So I propose that we all drive round in pre 1972 vehicles and miss out on allot of tax – Series 2 any one!!!! But then again all this money will be ’spent’ on reducing climate change! Rubbish.

Any way Rant over – until next time I bid the farewell The Landy Mann

P.S. That is a clue about next time!!

2009LRXblack-mid

As stated on lro.com Land Rover has showcased a black LRX at Geneva. They also said that all the models have had improvements but I found no mention of the Range Rover. The disco, RR sport & Freelander 2 get minor external changes. The defender SVX is also being show cased. But what will 2008 bring to lr? Suggestions please.

Some of the things Land Rover drivers get branded as are above. But with today’s weather it would not surprise me if some of the 4×4 response groups are out in force helping the emergency services. I haven’t found any that are out today yet but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were. These are people who help others in their times of trouble out of their own pockets and in their own time. For more info on your local group www.4×4response.net.

Is the way forward for buyers of new defenders Spanish? The Santana is a Spanish version of the Defender (built under licence) originally it was called Land RoverimgStationWag1Sml Santana. The Reason I say it is the way forward is, the current models have simple electronics and leaf springs. and as the Defender steadily go’s up market we may have to change our sights. and as Andrew Pearce, from Farmers Weekly says is “What you see here is not a Land Rover, but as close to one as twins separated at birth, same basic DNA, different upbringing”.  For more info on the Santana www.santanauk.com

As you can probably see my good friend Mat has left me some nice comments so here is my reply. People who drive 4×4’s and don’t go off-road are bad. But the people who drive off-road are good, even if they don’t need to it would be like taxing ramblers for walking (the extra were on their body cost the NHS more!!). Also the state of british roads means that most people do actually need one. However 19inch wheels get damaged in the pot holes so that is a bit point less on RR sport HST’s.

Hopefully I can find something better to post tomorrow!

In the 60’s when Rover were trying to create a new land rover one of the concepts was lrxupdate-midthe ‘Road Rover’ (I think it was based on a P5) and ended up with the Range Rover. However I now ask with the LRX concept has Land Rover forgotten the fact that they make Off-Roaders? OK 60 to the gallon and 120 g/km of Co2 is good there is little mention of off roading. Would a new basic defender work (no electrickery, and 80inch wheel base)? I think so. Hopefully Tata will give them a kick up the backside soon!
